November 11, 2018

Dear Farmington whanau,

Well, this week has been awesome! Elder Lokani went and did some tracting and we found a new family to teach their names are Evan and Melissa. We also took Elder Lokani out to his first NZ beach. It was mean. We also had our zone conference it was way good. Our mission president said that we have not smart phones but smart missionaries using phones. We also went and celebrated my year mark last week which honestly makes me so sad that I have already done 1 year here, but I am really glad that I know I have done some amazing things. I also am glad that I am living with absolutely zero regrets. I can tell how much personally I have grown also as of from when I left you all. Life is great though.

New Zealand is still one of the greatest places on earth. We were out visiting a bro this week that we found and holy moly I have met some crazy people but wow this guy we met was a Indian fella. We went up to his house and knocked on the door, no one was home but we heard music coming from the Garage so we went there. First stepping in this guy hard pornography all over his walls and we were actually about to walk away when  he asked us to come inside and sit down and talk to him. As we were talking, beer and cigarette in hand,  he told us that we should be so happy because we just met the "man". He then continued to tell us that he was god. It was crazy he said you remember when Jesus parted the Artic? We said that we remember some one parting water (moses and the red sea) and he continued to tell us that it was him. We just testified to him that he can be happy, and that he needs to read the book of Mormon,  because we know that he will be happier. So after we gave it to him we got up and left. But he really was pretty interesting. Another funny story from the mission Haha.

November 4, 2018

Dear Farmington Whanau,

Elder Allart here, so last week was really hectic. We had a Elder get into some trouble with his companion. So, as their District leader, I got a phone call from the Assistants and they told me that one of the Elders was over reacted during their weekly planning and they got into a little argument  and the elder called our mission President, which is something you only do in emergencies, over a little thing. So they both ended up coming to me and we had to do a mini exchange.

It was wild. Later though, we had Transfers. So, this time Elder Johnson is getting shifted to one of the coolest areas in the mission, Gisbourne. For me I  am getting to train, again. I was so happy and excited because my son or trainee is not from America or Canada. He is from Papa new Guinea.  He is amazing! I was honestly  humbled so much when I came and picked him up, he only had one small Suit case. He has almost nothing, and he comes from a country where they have heaps of Poverty. He is extremely Humble. His name is Elder Lokani and when we do missionary work, it is crazy how much he trusts me and how great his English already is. We visit everyone and he hasn't  seen all of these things that I just take for granted all the time.

On Sunday, I had to show him how the microwave works. He said that back home, they use Umbrellas to spear fish. It was amazing, in my interview with President Cummings, he talked with me about Elder Lokani. He said that where he comes from, he had nothing and he told me that he really trusts me to train Elder Lokani because when he goes home, he will be the future of the church in PNG. He already knows that when he goes home he will be a branch President  because the church is so new in PNG. He said that he really had to think about who he could really trust in this mission  to take care of Elder Lokani and he said that he felt that I would do the job. I honestly felt so honored  to be able to help out President with this and told him that you can trust me I will take care of him. When he first came in he did not have a winter coat, so we went and got him one from the missionaries up here in the zone, everyone pitched in. I gave him two of my sweaters and our Zl gave him 3 other coats to choose from. I just love how much we as missionaries take care of each other and how we are like a Family.

The other day I was thinking, I have little bits of words and phrases in about 23 languages on my mission, a lot of them this last week from a south African Family  in the ward. But there is different phrases in each language that there is in no way English could ever put it more perfectly.  In Samoan, the word for our brotherhood is Uso moasa uma, or "brothers every day"kind of. We really do take care of each other. I learned a little bit of the click language this week or Torsah (click your tongue on the T and you do it with the roof of your mouth) it is insanely cool I learned some Swahili and Malagasi and Zulu this week Haha it is insane how many languages are out there in the world today.

Some really good news this week is that we finally got the Whetu family set for Baptism on December 1. We are also trying to hit this area hard this transfer and to go away from focusing on LA so much to just actually finding more people through tracting. We also got to go to a baby blessing this week and I tried to practice my Tongan with a lady from the Tongan family of the baby. Holy moly they speak speak so fast!! I got talking with her about little small talk and eventually it just came to the point in the conversation that I would just say io or e-o which means yes and Tongan and I would just laugh if I didn't understand her Haha. I still have heaps to learn a phrase for you guys is Tau Alo or let's go. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DAD who finally turned 25 and my mate Nick Bell and Ed Baker who just started their mission!

Dear Farmington Whanau!

Well, this is my last week with Elder Johnson we think, eveything is good here though. We are really giving it everyhting we have this transfer and We were able to set the Whetu family for baptism which was amazing! We also are teaching this one guy named Steve Parkinson, and man it was a week.

As we have been talking one thing that we lewarned is that Steve is a massive as fisherman. like HUGE. We were talking and he said that he wanted to take us out Salt water fishing off the beach with either two types of ways, the first one is called a surf caster and you cast the line out past the wave break and fish for massive Kawai, but apparently they are power houses.

The second way is called, get this, Kite fishing. What you do, is you hook 1 kilometer of line to a kite and sent the kite out  over the water and attach like 20 hooks on the whole thing and see what you get, for us, we went Kite fishing because Elder Johnson will probably leave next thursday we went last week. It was great, the only problem was that the wind was blowing the wrong way so we ended up having to call it and now we will have to do it next week, but still it was awesome!

After, We went back to his house and had a Kai, one of his family members showed up and started talking and had this suprised as look on his face. Later the next day, we found out that he was his uncle, and he was talking to us about what we did going fishing with him, and he told us that no one has ever gotten this close to him on talking about the gospel and bring him back to church. not even his close family. We were shocked and we both just were blown away that this guy basically called us miracle workers, but man I must say, I am so humbled to be in this part of the Lords vineyard. I love this work soooooooooo much and i never want to come home sorry haha.

Kia ora Farmington Whanau,

I did the impossible this week, I finished Jesus the christ, a 793 page book, in two weeks. Dude you have to read it. It has so much knowledge in that book it is not even funny. I love this place though. So this week I actually had to send my trainer home to  the air port! It was sad, but he had to go. I love ELder Olctott, he Taught me many amazing things for the mission and the rest of my life. We did have one unfourtunate thing though, While I was with him I actually went to go get some star fish for when he  goes home and I got a twelve fingered star fish, at the expense of my pants, It can be fixed, but the rip went all the way up the seam, it was crack up as, most star fish have 10 fingers, but the one my poants got done on had 12 fingers, in hunting terms, it  was a "toad" haha. As I was runing away, I got the water literally at my heels. It was epic. Another thing that we did this week is that some of the ELders iin the district had to cast a devil out of a home so we had to go help them, wasn't anything crazy  though, we just blessed the home. This past week we also lot the car, the sisters scratched it before us so now we have to get it serviced for a week, it will be wayy rough though because we coveer heaps of farm towns, like 10 cities, it is a huge area. While going though we managed to set up a dinner appiontment next thursday and we will hopefully start teaching a Part member family, the Fatais'. The are a tongan family and the helped me out with my first raw kena. Next we rode bike to a place way out of the way to 222 waiuku road at 6 at night to in vite the Fahina family to church. once we saw them the actually ended up telling us they could not come. I also was able to find out that they are feeding their rooster KFC. Freaking crazies. We are also teaching a family out of the opposite side of town.

Kia ora Whanau

This week was a awesome week! We were able to and get a baptism in our Ward that ended a year long drought of no baptisms in the ward. It was pretty legendary. We woke up on saturday and rushed all over the place getting the different stuff for the baptism including a Tupenu. Uati is awesome though. We actually had to use a broom over the font glass to turn it on. But I love this place. We also found a girl named Loanne who hasn't even heard of Adam and Eve! So we started teaching her and she literally has no idea about god or anything. It blew me away.  We asked her to pray nd see if god is even there. We haven't had our return appointment yet, but I knw she got her answer. I love mission life. I miss all of you bck home, but New Zealand is Amazing. Shout out To Anneke! I am so proud of her. My older siser is a light and example to me. I brag about her where ever I go. I know that She gave her all to her mission.

Kia ora Farmington Whanau!

So, This week we Had it pretty good. First off, we found a new investigator her name is Anastasia and she sent a pic of me and Elder rich to Megan, in other words she is the bomb! She is super keen on learning the gospel and basically wants to be a member, she already has her own testimony on believing the church is true.

Next, I had my second Tongan Dish called Loo and it is soo good. It is corned Beef wrapped in Taro leaves with Coconut Creme and it is the bomb! I just need to try horse next and dog. I have heard that dog is the best meat and that it is out of this world. One of the Tongan Elders started telling us stories about how they would kill the dogs back home and eat them, It is wild! We also found a Lizard in our Chapel this week named PIP and he was a bro. We let him back into the wild by the chapel though.

We also have been blessed so immensely with Investigators this past week we found two, a white guy named Shaun and then a Muslim named Emron. Emron is mainly looking into the church to see the similarities with Islamic religion and the LDS faith. We also had a awesome fireside last night were we had a Samoan brother get up and basically make fun of the Asians with their eyes while we had some Asian members in the congregation. It was legendary.

We have had a awesome time here in New Zealand. This place is amazing I never want to go home. Every day the island people are so kind and loving and god blesses us so much with Amazing opportunities to help and serve these amazingly wonderful people. Aotearoa is amazing. I know that this is where I belong.

Kia Ora whanau!

Aoteaoroa Is Awesome! I love it so much here! We had a week of miracles this past week. We found three new investigators, and one of them being a family. It is awesome. We also found a pray-mantis named phillip. He held on to our car hood and we went 100 ks. Don't worry that is the speed limit here, haha. We biked 10 ks for a jar of nutella, haha. But we didn't really have a whole lot happen this week. I wish i could say i got into a fight with a couple of bears, but there are no bears here. I guess me and my manliness just scared them off the continent. Yea nah though NZ Is the bomb. We met a newain who is a hard out conspirist and spends way to much time on the internet. He believes that the world is covered by a glass dome and that only god can open the dome. Crazy people from Papa New Guinea Well and this car has some wack rims., pretty uneventful week, love you!

Kia ora Whanau!

So this week, was very eventful. This week, we were able to have my first two sets for baptism! It was awesome! We also went on splits and we were able to eat a donut from the first Krispy Kreme in New Zealand. It was Awesome! They are so good. I have been showing everyone in our ward how Andy showed us the put it in the Microwave for like ten seconds and it is soooo good. We also took some missionaries out on a Mtc Exchange this week and it was fun. I got a american going to the Vanuatu islands and he was fun. He was from Utah too. We talked about what has happened in the states since i have been gone. Wow! you guys have gotten a lot of snow. So I also hit my 4 month mark out here just barely and that was awesome! I also Met Elder Thompson from the seventy and he is pretty awesome! Elder Anderson from the 12 is here in New Zealand so we might actually get to talk to him, criss cross apple sauce make my dreams come true! We also ran out of food this week and that sucked.Last night we had 3 hardboiled eggs, and 8 chicken Nuggets! Ha It was the bomb.

We had this thing happen at church and well, I just tell the story, So, imagine, as a missionary, you have to greet people as they come into the chapel one by one with stuff like" Oh hi, how are you" and such when all the sudden, someone walked in with a beautiful dress, and I was like, aww man that  is a nice dress and I looked at the Lady's face, and she had a freaking beard! apparently, that is a normal thing here for the women to grow beards! It threw me for a loop though I was so confused. But after that, our week kinda just kept moving along. I had my interview with pres  Cummings last week and he told me that what Me and my trainer did in Turandgi; my first area that got shut down; Was a amazingly good job. He said that us elders did the better than what anyone has done down there, and that he had to shut it down because of the lack of  missionaries, and it was just something that I needed to hear. But I am so happy to be here now in Auckland. We had a guy go home in my intake. pretty sad, he will be missed.

Kia ora!

Hi guys, so basically, this week has been insane, I just don't have the cord with me to send the pictures. This week, I got my first Samoan feeds. HOLY FREAKING COW. They apparently like to feed you here until you literally have coming up, and then they are like,"OK would you want seconds?" Oh my gosh for real though these people will get offended if you don't take seconds, but besides that, the food is super good. Except over at the Tongan Elders flat. It was pretty bad. they decided to give pig head and a Tongan Potato. But for real they basically chopped off a pigs head and threw it into the oven and then said eat. It was nasty. The tongue taste a lot like a fried slug, and on the top the tongue has heaps of like matted hair. Then I went and had this potato. This potato was weird as. I took a big Bite into it and it has the outside of a potato but the inside of a very thick, over flowered pancake. I wouldn't suggest it because the food it extremely THICK

After that wonderful insping words of food, I want to tell you guys about our new friend. So we go and usually run at our park across the street, but our new friend likes to fight shadow ninjas on the grass. I call them shadow ninjas because there is literally nothing there and he is punching at the air and like kicking at the air too. It is the funniest thing in this world, because you can obliviously tell that the dude doesn't have any idea what he is doing, but he tries so hard to win. But, oh well.

next, i want to say that all people looking into going on a mission, learn about cars, because these people are putting me to the test with service. All of them are asking me to go and look at there cars and to try and fix them, but i just don't work like that, so i am telling people that i built cars back home, not fixed them.

In closing, New Zealand is great, The poly families are good out here at feeding us, and we have shadow ninja warriors in our park. I miss you all so much,

Kia Ora!!

So you guys know how i had the saying a while back that you can't believe what can happen in one week? Well, You wouldn't believe happened this week. So Tuesday rolls around this week being transfer week, Olcott and I both expected to have him get the phone call from president that he would go district leader, and it did. So it kinda went like this. Olcott picks up the phone, and starts off by saying hello pres! how are you? and then- "yea. yup. OK. I can do that for you. yes. huh. ok." And me being me I was well sneakily put it on speaker phone and i will listen to what he is saying to you. And then Olcott put it on speaker and said, "OK pres it is on speaker" I was just like you dummy don't say that, we are supposed to be sneaky and the Pres goes ok thank you elders for every thing you have done in Turangi, I regret to inform you this, but I am shutting your area down and while Olcott goes up to Ngarawahia to be a district leader he said " Elder Allart" " Yes President Cummings", " I need you to go to South Auckland to the Chapel downs ward. the chapel; right out side the MTC, and you are gonna train Elder Rich."

MY JAW LITERALLY HIT THE FLOOR.

I literally have been out two transfers, and He asked me to train. I did say yes, so now, I am doing something that the last time this happened was like 3 years ago, and literally, it is super rare to have a guy who just finished training, to train. So now, I am in South Auckland, brand new to a area, Training Elder Rich from South Jordan Utah. I am super excited, nervous, and scared. But, other than that, my week has been pretty uneventful.

Harea Mai!

So basically, This week was Awesome, redneck, sad, and surprising.

So The Awesome part About this week is that we have been visiting heaps of people, no baptisms yet, but we will get there. We have been walking everywhere lately in our small area because Our K's got cut back quite a bit. But, as we were walking, I saw some pretty insane stuff. so, Lets just paint the picture for you all.

You're walking down the street in your proselyting clothes, it is hot, muggy, miserable, and at that moment in time, all you want is a blimmin Bundaberg ( drink down here, has guava Really good) When all the sudden, you hear this loud dirt bike going down the street. Now for me, I always have to look and see if i can guess the make and model of the bike, power and what not. Only when i look up I seem to think I am hallucinating, and thought that i just saw some dude riding a chiller down the street. It was then that i rubbed my eyes that i ended up seeing a dude, riding a CHILLER DOWN THE ROAD!!! ( chiller is a cooler) he had attached a weed wacker on the back of it and put four wheels on the bottom. The Red neck here are called Hoarie Maori but to be real, It was a big fair skinned maori guy riding a cooler with his rifle between his legs! HAHA it was legendary!

Now for  the Sad part of my email, Tonga has just been hit by a big cyclone and the cyclone is now coming toward us. Woohoo. Tonga is destroyed though. We should be ok, because of how far inland we are, but pray for the Tongan people this week, because they need it.

Next, this is my last week with my trainer I think cause transfers are this week, I will know by Tuesday. Other than that, New Zealand is same old same old.

Kia ora Whanau!

So, earlier last week I thought, man, my last email kinda stuck, because we don't really have anything exciting to talk about. But, don't worry, Your man Cam has saved the day. I got Cellulitis. I kinda busted my shin back in December, and my shin has been healing slowly, but I got a fever last Monday; your Sunday; and it lasted 24 hours. but, It really did some damage to my already healing leg. from it, I got cellulitis, and it is basically a disease that sticks with me for the rest of my life. I went over to out member who is a nurse in our branch and showed my leg to her and instantly she said that I had cellulitis, and i needed to see the doctor immediately. So, We went to a small medicare place and immediately said that it was too big for them to handle, and pushed us up to the hospital. while at the hospital, They continued with something like, " so whats wrong with you?" *pulls up pant leg " OH my gosh That is the biggest cellulitis i have ever seen!" And from there i had two doctors do a ultrasound on  Bathsheba ( I named her, she is pretty wicked and I want to get rid of her every time I see her). But yea she is a nasty one she is. They gave me the heaviest antibiotics they have, and told me if it doesn't get better in a week, I am going in for surgery at Rotoroa next week. I am kinda the talk of the whole zone right now. But other that that, life is ok. Bathsheba just is annoying as ever.

LOVE YOU All

Kia Ora Whanau

Hey guys! So this week wasn't extremely eventful, but We did have our first Haungi, or a under ground feed. We also had a big service event go on and that was fun. While we were at the service though, it came to our realization how badly we have a bug infestation at our flat. It is a cockroach breeding ground right now. For example,  we have a game right now and that is who can feel the most cockroaches crawl over their legs through out the night. It is AWESOME! I went with ELder Olcott and we deep cleaned the whole flat today and then we bout a couple cans of the bugg killer and bombed our flat so now, our flat is a oven of death.Anyways, I also found out that if you want to find out what ime it is for me right now, you have to take back 4 hours, and go a day ahead.

So, with a haungi, you have to cook up a massive as bon fire about 2 feet in the ground with volcanic rock on top of the fire, the fire also has to be logg cabin style, next, make sure you have how many metal cages for how much food is desired, we had 8 cages, full of pork, chicken, kumara, potatoes, pumpkin; it is actually not bad;and next you layer all the baskets from meat to veggies. but before you putt them on, take out the rest of the wood and ashes, but leave the rocks. After this, put a steel sheet over the rocks, then put the baskets, on the sheets. then, pun a white bed sheet that has been soaking in a bathtub full of water all night over the baskets, than put heaps of burlap sacks that have also been soaking in water all night on top of the sheet. after this, cover the burlap starting from the ground up in dirt and let the food sit for 2 hours, then uncover and eat. You will know it is done when the dirt cracks and steam is popping out.

So Next, at church I helped give my first baby blessing. It was crack up. I am still learning MAori but the father went to Maori completely half way through and I couldn't understand anything so I just went ahead and said Amene at they end but I loved It. Turangi Is absolutely Fantabulous! Simon the beekeeper is moving along really well. we are gonna try to set him next visit. He actually gave us some Red Stag so we are gonna see  if we can cook it up and eat it later tonight.

January 14, 2018

Kia Ora All,

This week was epic!!! We went and Hiked Mt DOOM! It was honestly one of the most difficult hikes I have ever done. As we started walking up, the air got thinner and thinner and at about half way up, I got charlie horses in both of my thighs, but, besides the constant opposition, I pressed forward. As I kept making my way up the mountain I found the ratio for climbing was every 5 steps, was one foot! It was Hard! the further we went up though, The prettier the view. Once we reached the top though however, we found snow and a giant hole in the top. It was a massive volcano! At the top we stopped, said a prayer, and went down. At this point, my legs were so tired, that it felt like I had broken them. I hurt so bad! I ended up sliding down the volcano on my bum till we reached the bottom, my shorts ripped, we made it back to the car.

Now, the gospel principles in what we can find in this wondrous experience of pain, joy, and Majesty will come to the light. It shows that when the apostles talk about climbing mountains as a actual feet or a way of life, it is hard. Some want to quit, or maybe even back down, but It is though these experiences that we really grow. Some times as we climb our personal mountains, we get injured, or hurt even. At these moments, we need to move forward. Taking everything that we have with us to the top, where in the end, we can look back, and notice the path that we took to come. But, at the top, we can either sit there and look at the view, Or turn back and help the next one in line. From that experience, I have found that we never, ever stop, but keep moving forward, helping everyone to the top, to receive the wonderful fruit of eternal life that Lehi described to be, choice, and above all other fruit. But, once we are there, keep helping others come up too. I want to bear my testimony, that while on my mission, I have not only received that fruit and helped others get it, but I have seen what it can do for you. It can take away any pain, any amount of loneliness, and any suffering.

On a lighter note, the mountain was RAD!!! We just got a new district leader and I think he is ok, so I am going to talk to him more. I love you all and Hope that you are having fun!

Elder Alves and Elder Allart is in the house Filipino members in New Zealand
